[Chapter 3] The wind blew shyly on the leaves as the sun shined, now at its zenith. Miley started laughing at Livia's grimace, her hands handing many bags full of clothes she had just bought, as both girls walked on the busy street.
"How can you buy so many things at once?" Livia asked, staring at the pretty girl next to her.
"And how can you stop yourself from buying things? Isn't what shopping is for?" Miley answered, grinning.
The two of them were trying to get to know each other, and although they both had most of the same interests, Livia noticed that Miley and her were very different. It was not a bad thing, and Livia liked the refreshing side of Miley, like everything in life was worth a smile, and a try. Livia was also a passionated person, but could easily have mood swings, in opposite of her new friend, who seemed to wear a permanent smile, showing her straight white teeth to the world. Recently though, Livia had felt nothing but joy. Her life had changed for the better, and being able to do what she's always dreamt off gave her reason to wake up in the morning, even at a early time, with a smile crossing her face. It had been even more obvious to her, now that she spent most of her time with Miley, and surprised herself to wish for the next day she'd spend with her, every time she went to bed at night.
"I just have to fall in love with a piece of clothing." Livia answered, half-smiling.
"Me too, I just fall in love easier than you." Miley joked.
Livia's smile grew with her words, and she shook her head. If only Miley knew how many times she had thought she was in love with someone, Miley would immediatly take back her last sentence, although most of the time, Livia ended up alone and broken, before to finally realize that it was not love, just passionate infatuations.
"Sorry." Miley said as her cellphone started ringing her own new successfull song, making Livia laugh.
She grabbed the petite girl's bags when she saw she was having difficulties to reach her purse, and Miley smiled, moving her lips to say "thank you" before to flip her phone open and say a cheerful "Hi!" to the person on the other line. Once again, Livia let out a laugh. The spontaneous side of her new friend made her lips curl everytime.
"Oh, hey baby." Miley answered, her own smile falling down.
Livia got surprised at the sudden change in Miley's mood when she discovered who was calling her, although Livia always thought that "baby" was a nickname you said only to someone you liked to hear the voice of.
Miley grimaced at her boyfriend's remarks of her being away once again, of her not calling him for hours, and she finally rolled her eyes at the way he reproached her not to care enough about him. She had heard it all more than once, and although she was deeply annoyed by his behavior, she disliked him for ruining her day. She had wanted to break it off with him in a while, but she couldn't resigned herself to. They went through so many things together, so many things that couldn't just be pushed away from the back of a hand. Or at least, she didn't think she could break his heart.
She hung up after rassuring him with not a lot of conviction, that she missed him, and would visit him as soon as she could. He had made her promise it would be on the same night, and she told him what he wanted to hear, knowing it was the only escape.
"Annoying idiot..." she mumbled, making Livia frown.
"Boyfriend?"
Miley nodded, sticking her lips together, restraining herself from letting out a cuss word.
"It seems to be near the end, if you ask me." Livia let out.
Miley's heart bumped in her chest at her new friend's revelation. It always surprised her that someone delicate like Livia could say blatant evidences that normally should stay unsaid. Her honesty was beyond anyone's that Miley had met, and it still schocked her, although in some way, she appreciated it. It seemed like Livia was saying outloud what she tried to hide inside of her, to her own self.
"Maybe you're right." she answered after a short silence. "What about you, do you have a man in your life?"
Livia wanted to burst into laughter at that question, but she simply moved her head from left to right as both girls decided to sit down at a table with a cup of moka. Miley let her bags fall on the floor and took a sip of her hot beverage before to raised her eyebrows in a questioning look.
"Why not?"
"I don't like troubles." Livia said, raising her shoulders, which made Miley laugh lightly.
"But you had boyfriends before, didnt you?"
"You could... say it that way, yea." Livia said, hoping that hiding the truth wasn't really lying.
She normally was very open about her sexual orientation, but she didn't want to scare Miley away. She had seen so many of her supposely friends leave her after her revelation, and in no way did she want to lose Miley's new friendship. She had something not a lot of other people she knew, had, and although Livia could clearly see the danger in becoming too close to Miley, she couldn't help but like it.
It was worth a try. She was worth a try.
