Chapter 1 Every love story has a beginning... The sun was already up in the sky when a brunette started running through the halls rushed by the bell, her long straight hair flying behind her. The place was almost desert except for a few people - probably new students - trying to find the right way to get to their classroom.
The last year of high school promised to be special, almost perfect, and although the brunette was excited to go to college, she knew she would miss the atmosphere around here, her friends and even some teachers. Growing up was something no one could skip but it especially meant leaving people behind as they go in an other direction. Still, the thought of a whole year doing what she was used to and loved was enough to make her smile.
The young girl stopped in front of her locker and looked at the paper in her hand, then back to the number imprinted on the locker. She unlocked it and frowned when she tried to open the door.
"Stupid thing!" she whispered.
First she was late for class on the first day of school because she missed the bus and now, the door of her locker seemed to be jammed. She shook her head with a sigh. She was older now, shouldn't she have a car? It would make things so much easier.
She started kicking at the bottom of her locker without much success and gave up after a minute, letting her forehead lay on the cold metal.
"Need some help?"
Slowly, she turned around to stare at a pair of light blue eyes -in fact, they were almost aqua- and she half-smiled.
"You can try, but it is seriously jammed." she proposed, getting away from the locker to give him space and crossing her arms on her chest.
The pretty boy grinned and hit the middle of the locker with the side of his fist before to open it. The girl smiled widely back and looked at him again.
"Okay, I'm impressed." she admitted, tilting her head.
"Good." he noted mischievously. "That was the whole point."
She let out a short laugh and moved her head negatively. She knew him, he had been in some of her classes through the years but she couldn't remember his name, although she was almost sure it began with an A. Adam? Austin?
"I'm Livia." she let out, knowing he would present himself, too.
"Alex." he simply replied, his lips curling on the left in half a smile.
Yes, Alexandre, now she remembered. She got closer to him and got a better look at his features as he stared back at her.
"Well, Alex." she started. "How am I going to open my locker when you're not around?"
His eyes moved down a second as he kept grinning before to dive his eyes up in hers again. There was something about her, something he had never noticed before, that seemed to emanate from her like some halo around her. Why didn't he pay attention to her before?
"I guess you could talk to the janitor about it." he pointed out. "And until he does his work, I guess we can share my locker."
"That's generous of you." she thanked him as he opened his own locker.
"Not really, no." he declared, taking her books from her hands and putting them on the top shelf. "It's actually very selfish and a little controlling."
"Why that?" she frowned, moving her head slightly.
"Because now you're forced to wait for me after class." he explained. "I kinda like that."
This time, she really laughed and rolled her eyes, putting her hand on his shoulder before to let it slide on his arm. Realizing she was flirting, she backed away subtly.
"I can give you a ride home, if you want."
She could barely believe it. Not only was he flirting back but he was also solving one of the problems she thought her day would be filled with. After all, maybe it was going to be a good day.
"That's interesting." she shrugged. "I think I'll accept the offer."
"Great." he smiled again. "Let's meet here, then."
She nodded and watched him as he left, waving at her. She moved her hand in a goodbye sign and took the other direction but she couldn't stop herself from looking back at him and the fact that he turned around to get one last glimpse of her made her heart jump in a way it never had before.
